My name is John Golby and I’m based in Cape Town. I'm an artist specializing in oils and occasionally dry pastels and charcoal. I create meaningful images that can set a mood or capture a moment in time. I focus on realism, mainly in still life paintings, landscapes or portraiture. 

Coming from a family with a strong art background, it's taken me until my fifties to pick up a brush and get painting. My goal is to produce quality artwork that will grace your home, work or recreation spaces and imbue them with a spirit that is unique.

I work on a variety of substrates - paper, canvas, linen, MDF panel and aluminium. All my saleable work is original and I own the rights to all paintings and drawings that I create (if I do use other people's work as reference it is by arrangement).

While I usually create works that follow my own curiosity, I am also available to take commissions based on your photographs, in the style of still lifes, portraits or landscapes.
