FAQ

  • All available works are listed on my website. If something has sold out, it will be marked as such and you will be unable to add it to your cart. Once you find a piece you are interested in, you can add it to your cart and then follow the steps to complete check out. All sales take place through my website which is hosted by Squarespace, and I transact via PayPal, so all transactions are secure.

  • E-mail me and we can arrange an EFT.

  • Yes. I price in dollars to be able to transact overseas on PayPal. The exchange rate is currently about R18 to $1, and doesn’t look set to improve much soon. For local South African delivery or pickup, I will sell all artworks at R15 to the dollar (it hasn’t been better than that in four years). E-mail me and we can transact with an EFT.

  • Yes - press the Pickup tab at Checkout and the shipping option will disappear. I’m based in Cape Town, South Africa, we can arrange a suitable place and time to meet.

  • Yes, and I will draft a brief that meets your requirements before we begin the work. Because of distance, I work best from photographs, and you can expect better painting results with a good quality or even professionally-shot reference. One good photo reference suffices, I don’t generally “assemble” images from multiple photos unless they really are suitable. See my “Commissions” page for more details.

  • No, they vary depending on the subject. I experiment with different sizes.

  • Prints are scaled to various standard US frame sizes, e.g. 10x8, 14x11, 20x16, 28x20, and 36x24 (all inches). Square print sizes are 12x12, 16x16, 20x20, 24x24, 28x28, 32x32, and 36x36 (all inches). The print itself is smaller than this to include a border of 1 to 2 inches depending on the print size. When the original is an odd proportion, we fill the frame with the image until the first border is touched. In other words you might have wider vertical or horizontal borders. When the horizontal borders are wider, we might move the image up a little so that the lower one is wider than the upper, this is a popular setting.

  • Yes, I have access to a reputable local framer. Let me know your requirements.

  • I provide a seven-day money-back guarantee from the date of receipt of any original painting or print (notify me within seven days), subject to return of the item to me in its original condition and at your expense.

I do my best to capture item colors in listings as accurately as possible, but it’s accepted that monitors do not render colour perfectly. Be sure to read descriptions and sizes carefully, and please contact me if you have any questions or would like to see additional photos.

  • If you receive a shipment that was damaged during delivery, please email me photos of the packaging and item immediately. While prints can be replaced, a lightly damaged original work might need a repair. Ruined originals will have to be repainted entirely. So there are options depending on the item and the damage sustained.

  • I provide a series of mockups for each artwork in the product description page. However, it will be your responsibility to be sure of the dimensions you request in your order.

  • Caring for your artwork is an important part of preserving your investment. A painting is an heirloom that can be passed down generations. My original paintings are varnished, which helps protect them from dust, moisture, and harmful UV rays. Be sure to hang your artwork out of direct sunlight and away from any high-moisture zones like steamy bathrooms or busy kitchens. A controlled environment is the safest (think of art museums!). You can gently dust your painting when needed with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Never use any type of cleaning agent on your painting. Stylistically, framing is a personal preference, but it can help preserve your piece as it protects the vulnerable sides and corners of your painting from direct contact. Natural oils from your hands can build up over time and damage works of art as well, so keeping fingers away from the painting and only holding it by the sides, hanging wire, or frame, is best practice. Original paintings on paper are even more vulnerable to environmental effects, and should always be professionally framed with archival, acid-free, lignin-free materials behind protective glass or plexiglass. Pastel paintings are, of course, the most fragile, but don’t be fooled by this - framed behind glass, they can last as long as any other art medium.

  • My oil paintings are made with professional artist quality materials in the base, paints and varnish. I make canvas stretcher bar frames from seasoned hardwood and use fine imported canvas and linen, or commercially-manufactured aluminium composite (ACM) panels. Each painting is signed by me, and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.

  • All of my prints are professionally rendered to archival standards on 310gm, 100% cotton paper from Germany, with a gently textured surface. This paper is free of optical brightening agents (OBAs). They are printed in the latest generation Epson Ultrachrome archival pigment inks. This is the ink-set that started the pigment print revolution and twenty years on continues to be the leader in terms of lightfastness, colour gamut and D-max. I inspect each print personally to ensure print quality. Each print is titled, signed and dated by me, and will be packed in glassine paper and cardboard tubing for sizes 36x24 to 20x16, or glassine with cardboard protection for the smaller sizes 14x11 and 10x8.

  • Keep handling to a minimum. As with all art on paper, prints should not be displayed in direct sunlight or near high levels of heat or moisture; a controlled environment is best. DO NOT attempt to clean the surface with water, damp cloth, or any type of solvent. For best results, have your piece professionally framed with archival materials.

  • Probably, but we may have to experiment with scaling it up - contact me via e-mail.

  • Happy to do so - please contact me via e-mail.

  • I’m sure that’s possible. You can contact me via e-mail.

  • Not yet - I work from a small studio at home. Subscribe to my newsletter to hear about it when I do.

  • Via my website only, or in person wherever we may meet. I will alert subscribers of any exhibitions or markets that I might participate in.
