Commissions

I am available to undertake commissioned work in the genres of portraiture, landscapes and still life, in oils, pastel or charcoal. I am very happy to discuss your particular project, and you can contact me via my website e-mail or via the form at the bottom of this page.

Pricing

My charging rate relates to the size of the work rather than the time it takes me to produce. This is my rate card for various standard sizes (custom sizes are possible too):

These prices include all paint materials and the substrate, regardless of whether it’s paper, canvas, linen, or MDF. An additional 10% will be added to the price for works oil-painted on premium ACM panel. The exact painting base will likely be determined by logistics, i.e. whether the final work has to be shipped to you or picked up locally. Paper and canvases can be rolled into tubes for shipping, panels are by their nature more expensive to transport.

Shipping costs, and your local duties and taxes are for your account. I will provide an estimate of shipping costs when I provide you with a work breakdown.

Reference Material

I generally work from photographic references, and will advise on which of your photos are suitable for rendering in paint. Professionally-shot photographs are often the best source of subject material. I do not arrange formal sittings for portraits (few artists do nowadays), but might need to meet the portrait subject to consider any details or nuances of their appearance.

I am willing to take photos of your subjects (e.g. for your personal or animal portrait), or even a landscape, if they’re within my reach (expenses being for your account). In addition, I will ask a rate of $20 (R300) per hour spent doing so.
