Cape Farm Houses. Original oil painting.

$0.00

Oil painting of small rural setting, Western Cape winelands of South Africa.

One of the routes I can take to the office passes through very pretty farmland. En route you stumble upon these little houses nestled in a grove of majestic trees. I think they're the homes of the farm staff and laborers. It always struck me how nicely they were placed, sheltered by the big trees and set slightly lower than the land. I caught this shot in the early afternoon, what appealed to me was the way the trees frame the houses behind with their shade. The fence posts and little track out front add interest to a simple rural setting.

Almost all of this was palette knife work, minor brushwork to smooth some edges and textures. It's much larger than my usual panels, and I decided at the outset to paint much more loosely than I usually do.
