Roses. Original oil painting.
I decided to do a modern take on the still life - clear light, modern tabletop and contemporary vase, in contrast to the traditional style. First a basic drawing followed by block-in and then detail. I let the quite rough block-in do the talking in an effort to allow a looser painting, so there's not much follow-up detail in the foliage areas. Also - it's roses, so I avoided abstraction in the background, unlike many contemporary still lifes where it's as busy as the subject.
